We have an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in accountancy to join our team based in Southend. The role offers exposure to a wide range of accounting, bookkeeping, and tax work while providing valuable experience working directly with clients and supporting the wider team.
Ideally, we are looking for someone who already has practice experience, but we’re most keen to hire ambitious people who are passionate about developing their knowledge and skills. So even if you lack on the experience side of things, if you have a positive attitude, strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn, we’d love to hear from you!
What you'll be doing:
- Assisting with the preparation of accounts for a variety of clients
- Processing bookkeeping records and maintaining accurate financial information
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Supporting the preparation of management information and financial reports
- Liaising with clients to obtain information and resolve queries
- Assisting with administrative tasks to support the smooth running of the practice
- Managing and organising digital client records and documentation
- Handling incoming telephone calls, emails, and correspondence professionally.
- Acting as the first point of contact for the practice by welcoming clients and visitors and managing the reception area in a professional and friendly manner
- Supporting the team with ad hoc accounting and administrative projects
- Developing knowledge of accounting, tax, and compliance requirements
What we're looking for:
- Experience in an office administration environment
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Organised and able to manage multiple tasks effectively
- Positive, professional, and reliable approach to work
- Good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A genuine interest in developing a career within accountancy
- Previous experience within an accountancy practice or finance role (desirable)
- Experience using accounting software such as Xero, TaxCalc, QuickBooks, or similar (desirable)
- AAT studies (desirable)
